The Central Government of India has announced 15,000 scholarships with the objective of training young professionals to use and implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the media, entertainment, gaming and animation sectors.
The initiative has been unveiled by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and will be implemented in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and various industry partners like Google and YouTube.
The objective behind this program is to train participants with skills in areas such as animation, visual effects, gaming and digital content creation, where the use of AI is expanding rapidly. The scheme will work towards reducing the skill gap and prepare a skilled workforce to meet the evolving industry requirements.
The ministry mentioned, “IICT, in collaboration with Google and YouTube, has designed a curriculum that integrates advanced AI tools, creative workflows, and platform-level best practices, ensuring participants are equipped with production-ready, industry-relevant skills from the outset“.
It also mentioned that the scholarships will provide access to specialised training modules, tools and mentorship, enabling candidates to gain hands-on experience in AI-enabled creative processes.
The ministry also mentioned that the scholarship is a push towards strengthening India’s “rapidly evolving” media and entertainment ecosystem. It is expected that the program will support the growth of the digital economy by creating a pool of skilled professionals.
